The film adaptation of this book is one of my favorites and when I realized it was based on a book, I knew I had to read it. The trouble is, the book gets so catch up on the philosophy of existence (do we actually exist or do we only think we do, I see therefore I am, yadda yadda yadda) that it really takes away from the premise of the story which is the lengths one man would go to to be with the woman he loves. The idea of soul mates was played down to the point where it almost didn't even seem like the main plot. Or maybe I'm simply spoiled from having seen the film first. Either way, in this instance the film was far superior to the book.
