A fantastic story of one woman's strength and determination. I've always enjoyed books set against the backdrop of the two World Wars and when combined with a protagonist who must overcome odds that are stacked against her—on top of dealing with the crippling side effects of polio—this made one hell of an engaging read. Easily one of the best books I've ever read and boy, did it have one equally amazing ending. May have shed a few tears while reading this. I truly felt like I was making the journey with Mathilde, feeling everything she was feeling during her search for her fiance Manech. Would recommend to anyone who loves a good period piece.
